MATERIAL LIBRARY

The material comes first.

Compare the workpiece, the process and the result before selecting a laser. Start with a documented material, then review the application.

MATERIAL LIBRARY

Find your material. Define your result.

Four useful starting points for a clearer equipment conversation.

AI teaching concept: transparent engraved acrylic display samples

Acrylic (PMMA)

Clear displays, engraved panels and cut profiles. Define the exact grade, thickness and desired finish before evaluating a configuration.

Discuss: engraving or cutting with CO2

Explore the acrylic guide
AI teaching concept: engraved wood and cut wood samples

Wood & plywood

Engraved pieces, signage and model parts. Bring the board specification, coating details and a representative sample.

Verify: construction, adhesive and finish

Explore the wood guide
AI teaching concept: layered engraving sheet samples

Laser-grade sheets

Contrast engraving for labels and nameplates. Use the exact supplier product code and documented processing method.

Verify: cap, core and approved process

Explore engraving sheets
AI teaching concept: marked metal tags and component identification

Coated & bare metals

Identification marks on tags and components. Treat the alloy, coating and required marking result as separate inputs.

Discuss: fiber marking and surface requirements

Bring a representative sample

Include the material product code and documentation, dimensions, artwork, processing location and the result you will inspect. A convenient substitute may not represent the intended workpiece.

  • Exact material, coating and protective layers
  • Annotated drawing or photograph
  • Artwork at the intended size
  • Agreed appearance or measurement criteria

Material identity is part of the brief

Confirm composition and the equipment manufacturer’s guidance before any processing trial. Trotec lists PVC and PTFE among unsuitable materials for its laser processing. An unidentified plastic is not an appropriate way to discover its composition.

Read Trotec’s material restrictions. For general process distinctions, consult Epilog’s material compatibility guidance.

Let’s build a clearer material brief.

Share its product code, surface and intended result. Start with the workpiece, then discuss the equipment.
